How do I find the price before a discount?

Use Reverse: enter the final price and the change (−15 for 15 % off, +20 for 20 % tax). It divides by the factor — 85 ÷ 0.85 = 100 — rather than adding the percent back, which would give the wrong answer.

What is the difference between points and percent?

Going from 4 % to 5 % is a rise of 1 percentage point (100 basis points) but a 25 % relative increase. The Points mode shows both.

Is this safe for financial calculations?

Fine for everyday figures. For regulated financial work use tooling with decimal arithmetic; JavaScript numbers are binary floating point.
